Born on 3 January 1956, in Peekskill, New York, Mel Colmcille Gibson is a renowned American filmmaker and actor. Gibson is widely known for his outstanding roles in the Mad Max post-apocalyptic film series, as well as Lethal Weapon. In the year 1995, Mel Gibson directed an epic historical film, Brave Heart in which he scooped two Academy Awards in the category Best Director and Best Picture, as well as a Golden Globe Award.
Later on in the year 2004, Mel Gibson directed yet another critically acclaimed film, the Passion of Christ. Other noteworthy films that Mel Gibson directed included Apocalypto and Hacksaw Ridge, which earned him two Academy Awards and four other nominations.
Though Mel Gibson was born in New York, he relocated with his family when he was only 12 years old to Sydney, Australia. While living in Sydney, Mel Gibson attended the world-renowned, National Institute of Dramatic Art. During the 1980’s, Mel Gibson founded his production company, Icon Entertainment. In the year 1981, Mel Gibson appeared in the critically acclaimed film, Gallipoli, which earned him an Australian Film Institute award.
